AT&T Launches New Prepaid Cellphone Service, Aio Wireless

Ever since T-Mobile announced their new contract plans, other U.S.-based wireless carriers have been attempting to offer their own new prepaid plans. Verizon introduced their own $35 prepaid basic phone plan?just last month, and it looks like it?s AT&T?s turn to do the same.

AT&T has announced its new prepaid service called Aio Wireless, which launched yesterday in select stores located in Houston, TX, Orlando, FL and Tampa, FL, although the company plans to roll out service to additional U.S. markets over the next year. Plans on Aio Wireless is introducing three plans, the cheapest plan starting at $35 per month while the most expensive plan will set customers back $70 a month and will provide access to AT&T?s 4G network.

AT&T dipping its toes into the tepid waters of contract-less plans is certainly a good first step, but they will have to do some serious work if they even want to consider dethroning T-Mobile?s contract-less plans. Offering the Nokia Lumia 620 is certainly a good start for Aio Wireless, but the sooner they can offer phones that its customers actually want to buy, the better its new prepaid service will perform.
